Rise of the Bio-Librarian

Rise of the Bio-Librarian – The field of biocuration expands as the data grows heißt ein aktueller Artikel von Anne Harding im The Scientist. Was macht der Biobibliothekar oder Biokurator genau?

We’re getting to the point where it’s possible to sequence a genome in a day. But the raw sequence information is pretty much worthless unless it’s interpreted and organized. The open-reading frames and other sequence features have to be identified; comparisons need to be made with other genomes, since well-characterized orthologs in other species can provide important functional information; and the biological literature for the species in question needs to be correlated with the sequenced genes.
